Seventeen students from Naitasiri Secondary School, who were involved in a vehicle accident on Monday, will be granted a compassionate pass, pending necessary evaluations and recommendations from the Sub Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Naitasiri and the Head of School (HoS). This decision was confirmed by the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu, the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading it to veer off the road near Navuniyasi Village Saumakia Junction in Naitasiri. The injured students were promptly transported to Vunidawa Hospital for medical attention. Minister Radrodro mentioned that further details about the accident’s cause remain undisclosed, as police investigations are still ongoing.
In addition, the Minister highlighted that students will have the opportunity to file claims with the Accident Compensation Commission Fiji (ACCF). He stated that the Head of School will assist the affected students and their families in submitting these claims based on the police and medical reports.
Radrodro also urged parents, guardians, and the community to prioritize safety to avoid future incidents, emphasizing that this tragic event underscores the vulnerability of life and the resilience of the community. He reassured the affected students and their families that the ministry stands in solidarity with them during this challenging time.
