Students from Moala Island Discover Futures at Careers Expo

Students from Uciwai District School on Moala Island participated in a Careers Expo hosted at Yasayasa Moala College, providing them with valuable insights into various educational and career opportunities. Guided by their teacher, Jonacani Kotobalavu, students in grades 6 to 8 engaged in this one-week event organized by the Ministry of Education.

The Expo, which toured the Lau group, featured booths from various stakeholders, including Fiji National University. Kotobalavu highlighted the importance of exposing students to opportunities beyond their island, stating, “Learning is not just limited to our island; there’s always a bigger picture out there.” He noted that the expo plays a crucial role as students get ready to transition to secondary school and eventually to universities.

The students explored numerous booths to discover different educational pathways available to them. As an alumnus of FNU, Kotobalavu emphasized that having such institutions represented at the expo encourages students to consider their future options. He remarked, “This moment is important for our students to come and explore because they are building their futures,” underlining the positive impact of initiatives like this in remote maritime areas.
