Students Caught in Drug Bust Alongside Dozen Others

In a significant crackdown on drug-related offenses, police arrested 13 individuals, including three students, for possessing illegal drugs. The students were apprehended on two school campuses, prompting further investigations. Police Assistant Commissioner Livai Driu highlighted that authorities are looking into another school after its management reported finding smoking paraphernalia in the dining area.

Driu praised the collaboration with educators, acknowledging their role in promoting safety within the community. He emphasized a commitment to allowing the legal process to unfold.

In addition to the students, other arrests included a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard caught with small bags of white crystals at a roadblock. In another raid in Waiyavi, Lautoka, police uncovered more substances alongside suspected drug sale cash. Other arrests involved individuals found with various amounts of marijuana in different locations, including a 46-year-old farmer and a 24-year-old man who had sachets of dried leaves.

All suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues, with the seized drugs awaiting analysis.

While the events are concerning, they highlight the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement and the community to address drug use among youth. The collaboration between schools and police serves as a hopeful step towards creating a safer environment for students.
