In a significant crackdown on drug possession, police arrested 13 individuals, including three students, in various locations. The arrests occurred largely at two schools and were prompted by reports from the institutions themselves. Police Assistant Commissioner Livai Driu emphasized the importance of community involvement, commending educators for their role in maintaining safety and encouraging them to continue reporting suspicious activities.
In addition to the student arrests, law enforcement apprehended a 33-year-old carpenter and a 47-year-old security guard at a roadblock where they were found with small plastic bags containing white crystals. A separate police operation in Waiyavi, Lautoka led to the arrest of four individuals who possessed similar white crystals, drug paraphernalia, and cash believed to be linked to drug sales. Other arrests included a mechanic with multiple bags of white crystals and a man found with branches of marijuana at a bus shelter.
The police continue to investigate these cases, with all suspects in custody and awaiting further analysis of the seized substances. This operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug-related issues in the community, showcasing the effectiveness of collaborative efforts between police and local stakeholders.
On a hopeful note, this situation illustrates the positive impact of community vigilance in addressing drug-related activities. With the support of educators and community members, authorities can work together to create safer environments for everyone, particularly for the younger generation.
