Weather Update

Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, at 6:46 AM on this fine Monday morning, March 3rd, 2025.

Attention all residents of Southern Vanua Levu, Western and Southern Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups, Kadavu, and smaller nearby islands: the strong winds are not just a gentle breeze. We’ve got a warning in effect for those areas with winds gusting as if the ocean just got into a quarrel with the trees. Hold onto your hats, folks! We’re talking about winds reaching speeds from 37 to 46 km/h, with gusts that might just take your umbrella for a joyride at 55 km/h.

Now, if you thought the rain was taking a backseat, think again! Our previous heavy rain warning has been downgraded to an alert, which still means your backyard might transform into a swimming pool. Occasional heavy rain will be making an appearance, especially around the Greater Nadi Area, Lautoka, Ba, and a few other spots that seem to have a special connection to showers.

For the rest of the Fiji group, don’t think you’ll escape! Occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are in store, particularly in the afternoons when the clouds seem to have a tendency to let loose. Just remember—if you see the sky darkening, have your ducks in a row… or at least your indoor plans!

Outlook for tomorrow (Tuesday): Expect even more rain, possibly giving the clouds a solid chance to impress with occasional heavy periods in Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and Islands nearby. And yes, gusty winds will join the party, making socializing—both human and umbrella—quite tricky.

As for the specific areas:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Rain is a given with a few rumbles of thunder for that dramatic effect.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Prepare for heavy rain, but good news—clear skies are expected to swoop in from the west later today.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The strong winds and occasional heavy downpours are the theme of the day.
– Tavua/ Rakiraki: Rain, rain, and more rain.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Strong winds and rain will be your companions today.
– Labasa and Savusavu: Heavy rain with a few thunderstorms will make things exciting.
– Lau/ Lomaiviti and Kadavu: The strong winds and showers are on the way, don’t leave the house without your raincoat!

And for our friends on Rotuma: You’ll experience fine weather with brief showers. Just make sure your umbrella is at the ready!

Stay safe out there, don’t forget to dance in the rain… but, you know, maybe keep it to a minimum if you can!
