A strong southeasterly airflow will dominate Fiji through tonight and into tomorrow, bringing locally strong winds, rough seas and periods of cloud and showers across the eastern and southern coastal areas. A Strong Wind Warning remains in force for several island groups and for parts of the northern coast, with conditions expected to gradually ease from tomorrow.
Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds are forecast for most of the group, but strong southeast winds up to 45 km/h are expected over the land areas of Yasawa, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of Rakiraki and Udu Point. Seas will be rough in these conditions. Mariners and coastal communities should exercise caution while the warning is active and secure loose items; small craft operators should be particularly careful.
Cloudy periods with some showers are likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. The remainder of the country can expect mostly fine weather apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, although afternoon thunderstorms are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
Local centres will feel the effects differently. Navua, Suva and Nausori should see cloudy periods with some showers, with temperatures about 24–31°C tomorrow and a slight rise to a 24–32°C range on Tuesday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba are mainly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers with highs near 32°C. Tavua and Rakiraki are likely to experience the strong southeasterly winds noted above but winds are expected to ease to moderate to fresh from tomorrow.
Rotuma is being affected by a trough of low pressure with associated cloud and showers; occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with moderate easterly winds and moderate seas, and showers and thunderstorms continuing into Tuesday. The outlook for Tuesday across the main islands remains similar: cloudy periods with some showers in the noted eastern and southern districts and island groups, generally fine elsewhere, and the ongoing possibility of afternoon or evening thunderstorms over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
