Weather Update: Hold onto your hats, folks!
Issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 3:30 PM.
Buckle up, because a STRONG WIND WARNING is still waving its flag over the coastal areas of eastern and southern Viti Levu (you know, the scenic routes from Coral Coast to Rakiraki, including Navua, Suva, and Korovou), Southern Bua and Cakaudrove Province, Kadavu, and the charming little islands nearby. And let’s not forget our friends in the Yasawa, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups, who are invited to join this brisk weather party!
What’s brewing? A shy, feeble trough of low pressure is bringing along a few clouds and tears—err, we mean showers—to our islands.
As we look toward midnight tomorrow, expect the southeast winds to channel their inner race car and zoom up to 46 km/hr along the coast from Sigatoka all the way to Rakiraki. Rough seas are on the menu, so if you’re planning any flamboyant water sports, maybe stick to watching from the safety of the shore.
The rest of the island will see moderate southeast winds that might not qualify as “fresh” but are moderately fresh—like that expired milk you know won’t quite spoil you but is definitely pushing its luck.
Occasional showers are expected over areas like Navua-Suva-Nausori, Serua-Namosi, and some other equally charming forests of names. While everywhere else might be feeling a little lonely, we recommend having an umbrella handy for those surprise afternoon showers—because who doesn’t love a spontaneous downpour?
Nights are gearing up to be cool; perfect for long sleeves or a snuggly blanket.
Looking ahead to Friday: our winds are back to their strong alter ego with the same southeast gusts reaching 46 km/hr in those same coastal neighborhoods. The seas again will have that rough-and-tumble vibe. Expect rounds of rain and the occasional thunderstorm for our friends on Vanua Levu and the Yasawa group.
For specific locations:
Navua/Suva/Nausori: Hold onto your hats, strong winds and occasional showers await. Cozy night vibes coming right up.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Strong winds will dance through the air, making it a cloudy affair with the occasional evening shower.
Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: It’s a cloudy gig with isolated afternoon showers. Perfect for coffee and contemplating life!
Tavua/Rakiraki: If you’re out in Rakiraki, those southeast winds will be quite the drama, accompanied by few showers and a cool night.
And for our friends down in Yasawa/Mamanuca, prepare for those strong winds and some showers, especially towards evening.
Lest we forget: for Rotuma, this weather trough is stirring things up with heavy showers and a little lightning flair, which might make the sunsets all the more mesmerizing (and wet).
Stay dry and keep it breezy out there!
