Striking USP Workers Demand Action: What’s Next?

The Ministry for Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations has stated that it cannot intervene in the ongoing strike by USP workers who are demanding the removal of Vice Chancellor Pal Ahluwalia. Minister Agni Deo Singh indicated that this issue falls under the jurisdiction of the USP Council.

“The union has the mandate, and they have chosen to strike,” Mr. Singh commented. He emphasized that his ministry’s role is limited to offering voluntary mediation, which they have already done, leaving it to the workers to decide whether to participate or not.

He further clarified, “We are unable to take any further action because their demand for the VC’s removal is a matter for the council.” Thus, the situation remains for the USP Council to address.
