Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor’ Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the expanding trade relationship between the two nations. During his speech at the 67th Malaysia National Day and 61st Malaysia Day celebrations at the High Commission residence, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia is consistently listed among Fiji’s top ten trading partners, underscoring the robust nature of their trade ties.
He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, including petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motor vehicles. Mr. Idrus also mentioned the presence of Vision Motors, which imports Proton cars, inviting attendees to learn more about these remarkable Malaysian-made vehicles.
Additionally, he pointed out that the recent success of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in establishing business agreements with Malaysian suppliers marks a positive development in their trade relations. He expressed pride in the significant contributions of Malaysian-linked companies like the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, which have all established a strong foothold in Fiji, inspiring other businesses to explore opportunities in the region.
Mr. Idrus emphasized that under Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership, Malaysia is committed to pursuing inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient development while fostering global business relationships, including with Fiji. The MADANI Economic framework is central to these efforts, focusing on structural reforms to promote a sustainable future for the nation. He noted that the close friendship between Malaysia and Fiji also encompasses their trade relations.
