The High Commissioner of Malaysia to Fiji, Nor Azam Mohd Idrus, has expressed strong support for the strengthening trade ties between Fiji and Malaysia. Speaking at the 67th celebration of Malaysia’s National Day and the 61st Malaysia Day at the High Commission residence on Wednesday, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks among Fiji’s top ten trading partners, demonstrating the robust and stable trade relationship between the two nations.
He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, particularly petroleum oils, soybean oil, and automobiles. He mentioned Vision Motors, which imports Proton cars into Fiji, inviting attendees to learn more about these Malaysian-made vehicles. Mr. Idrus also pointed out the recent success of GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd in securing contracts with Malaysian suppliers, marking a new development in their trade interactions.
He expressed pride in Malaysian companies that have successfully established a presence in Fiji, such as the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, and encouraged other businesses to explore opportunities in this promising market.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia is pursuing inclusive and sustainable development opportunities with other nations. Mr. Idrus emphasized Malaysia’s commitment to engaging in global trade, including with Fiji, under its MADANI Economic framework designed to implement structural reforms aimed at creating a more resilient economy.
The ties between Malaysia and Fiji extend beyond friendship into solid trade relations.
