Malaysia’s High Commissioner to Fiji, Nor Azam Mohd Idrus, expressed his strong support for the expanding trade relationship between the two countries. Speaking at the 67th Malaysia National Day and 61st Malaysia Day celebrations at the High Commission residence on Wednesday, Mr. Idrus highlighted that Malaysia consistently ranks among Fiji’s top ten trading partners, demonstrating the robustness and stability of their trade connections.
He noted the popularity of Malaysian products in Fiji, such as petroleum oils, soybean oil, and motor vehicles. He also mentioned the presence of representatives from Vision Motors, promoting Proton cars, as an example of Malaysian excellence in the automotive sector.
Mr. Idrus pointed out recent advancements in trade, specifically mentioning GMR Muhammad & Sons Pte Ltd’s successful engagements with Malaysian suppliers as a notable development. He expressed pride in the contributions of prominent Malaysian-linked companies in Fiji, including the Carpenters Group, Spirit of Endeavour, and Shangri-La, emphasizing their success as a motivational example for other businesses looking to enter the market.
Under the guidance of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia is committed to pursuing opportunities that foster inclusive, equitable, sustainable, and resilient development. Mr. Idrus reiterated Malaysia’s openness to global business, including in Fiji, and mentioned the MADANI Economic framework, which aims to implement structural reforms for a sustainable and inclusive future for the nation.
He concluded by reaffirming the strong friendship and trade ties between Malaysia and Fiji, highlighting the mutual benefits of their bilateral relationship.
