Siddhartha Mohanty, the CEO and Managing Director of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), has made a significant visit to Fiji, marking the first such trip in over ten years. During his time in Fiji, he met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, to discuss LICI’s ongoing contributions to Fiji’s financial sector and long-term investments.

The Ministry of Finance highlighted that discussions included important topics such as enhancing economic collaborations, ensuring financial security, and identifying further opportunities for engagement that would support Fiji’s economic growth and resilience. This visit emphasizes the strengthening financial ties between India and Fiji.

LICI has had a notable presence in Fiji since it began operations in 1956, currently managing 62.5% of the country’s life insurance policies and serving over 61,000 policyholders. In 2023, LICI disbursed nearly $55 million in claims while settling an additional $38 million early in 2024. This commitment to customer support and community engagement positions LICI as a key player in enhancing financial stability in the region.

Furthermore, LICI’s ongoing engagement through community initiatives reflects its dedication to not only business growth but also the well-being of the communities it serves. The cooperative spirit evident in these discussions and engagements suggests promising prospects for further economic development and partnerships between India and Fiji.

Overall, this visit by Siddhartha Mohanty represents a hopeful step forward in bolstering economic relationships, which can lead to mutual benefits for both nations.
