A delegation from the Indonesian Parliament recently met with Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, the Speaker of the Parliament of Fiji, along with members of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs. This meeting aimed to enhance bilateral relations between the two nations.
The Indonesian Embassy in Suva released a statement indicating that this visit followed discussions among lawmakers of both countries during the second Indonesia-Pacific Parliamentary Partnership (IPPP) held in Indonesia last July.
During the meeting, Ratu Naiqama acknowledged the successful hosting of the IPPP, where he led the Fijian parliamentary delegation. Mohammad Muraz, the head of the Indonesian parliamentary delegation, expressed that there are several opportunities to strengthen inter-parliamentary cooperation, which could pave the way for deeper relations.
He mentioned the shared interests of Indonesia and Fiji in the Pacific Ocean and recognized Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s vision of the Ocean of Peace. Mr. Muraz expressed a desire to understand this vision better to align it with Indonesia’s role in the Pacific.
The Indonesian parliamentarians were joined by Indonesia’s Ambassador to Fiji, Dupito Simamora, and participated in a session at the Fijian Parliament.
