India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently held a meeting with Fiji’s Health and Medical Services Minister, Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu, in Delhi, focusing on enhancing health cooperation between the two nations. Jaishankar highlighted this collaboration as a crucial “pillar” of the longstanding partnership between India and Fiji.

In a statement on X, Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction with the discussions regarding ongoing health initiatives, emphasizing the importance of support from India in Fiji’s healthcare sector. Previously, during a meeting at the Munich Security Conference, Fiji’s Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, also acknowledged India’s vital support in various development initiatives, particularly in healthcare, such as the construction of a 100-bed Super Specialty Cardiology Hospital in Suva. These projects underline a growing partnership and commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure, not just for Fiji, but for the wider Pacific region.
