Senior officials from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) visited Fiji’s Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, in Suva today to strengthen their collaboration on regional security issues. The delegation, led by Detective Superintendent Grant Liddy and including Detective Inspectors Jodie Hurley and Paul Everingham, engaged in important discussions focused on law enforcement cooperation and strategies to address the escalating threats posed by transnational crime in the Pacific.
Commissioner Tudravu highlighted the Fiji Police Force’s commitment to combating illicit drug trafficking, which remains a critical concern. He reiterated the necessity of collaborating with the AFP and other regional police forces to create a unified front against such criminal activities.
The meeting underscored the significance of resource sharing, intelligence cooperation, and capacity-building, which are vital components of the ongoing efforts to bolster security in the Pacific region. Detective Superintendent Liddy reaffirmed the AFP’s dedication to enhancing its partnership with the Fiji Police, acknowledging Fiji’s pivotal role in the regional law enforcement landscape.
The discussions were further informed by the Solesolevaki Memorandum of Understanding, which has already led to an increase in joint operations and training initiatives.
