Weightlifting Fiji has announced that three athletes—Taniela Rainibogi, Daniel Shaw, and Nehemiah Elder—will participate in a training camp and coaching seminar organized by the Oceania Weightlifting Federation in Samoa. This event coincides with the revitalization of the Oceania Weightlifting Institute, which had closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The reopening of the institute is an encouraging development for the weightlifting community in the Pacific region, aiming to foster the growth of athletic talent and improve overall performance. Paul Coffa, the general secretary of the Oceania Weightlifting Federation, played a pivotal role in extending the invitation for this significant initiative.

Henry Elder, coach of Weightlifting Fiji, emphasized the importance of this camp for the athletes’ development and their preparation for upcoming competitions. He stated that the camp offers a unique opportunity for Fijian lifters to train in a high-performance environment alongside some of the top athletes in the Oceania region. Additionally, it provides a platform for coaches to enhance their skills and knowledge.

The primary goal of the seminar and training camp is to refine the technical and tactical abilities of athletes while empowering coaches with advanced methods. This initiative is crucial for reigniting the momentum of weightlifting in Oceania and improving Fiji’s competitiveness on the international stage.

In summary, the upcoming training camp not only serves as a vital opportunity for personal and professional growth for the athletes and coaches involved, but it also showcases a positive step forward for the sport of weightlifting in the Pacific region.
