Strengthening Justice: New Forensics Training in the Pacific

The Australian Federal Police has initiated a one-month regional Basic Forensic Course to enhance forensic capabilities throughout the Pacific, which began today.

This seminar will welcome police officers from American Samoa, Fiji, and Samoa, with financial support from the Australian Federal Police’s Law Enforcement Cooperation Program.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Sakeo Raikaci inaugurated the session, stating, “Fiji is committed to strengthening regional efforts in addressing common threats in our region, and this training is just another example of that.”

Fiji expressed its readiness to host such regional training, emphasizing its role in fostering cooperation and enhancing interoperability through the exchange of knowledge and skills.

The training aims to equip participants with the essential knowledge and skills needed for their roles as crime scene investigators. As the first responders to a crime scene, these officers play a crucial role in gathering, analyzing, and compiling evidence vital for investigations and legal proceedings. Proper handling of these fundamentals is crucial for delivering justice to victims.

The training is organized by the Pacific Forensic Working Group of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police, which aims to identify and implement sustainable forensic capacity-building initiatives for the Pacific region to enhance police forensic capabilities.
