Minister for Fisheries and Forestry and Acting Minister for Agriculture and Waterways, Alitia Bainivalu, visited Burelevu Village in Ra on May 25, engaging directly with community members to better understand their needs. Accompanied by officials from various departments, Minister Bainivalu held a talanoa session where residents expressed concerns over inadequate road access, the need for fish farming facilities, support for poultry, repairs to the village hall, and the establishment of more markets for women’s agricultural produce.
In her address, the Minister expressed gratitude to the villagers for their support during the last election and reaffirmed her commitment to aiding rural communities. During her visit, she distributed tools, seeds, shalon shade, and planting bags aimed at bolstering women’s gardening and nursery projects.
Officials reassured villagers that their concerns would be addressed, offering information on programs designed to enhance farming, housing, and local businesses. This visit highlights the government’s dedication to listening to the public and fostering grassroots development, a theme resonating with her prior engagements in other parts of Ra Province, such as Barotu and Rokoroko. In those earlier visits, Bainivalu actively sought to strengthen community ties by addressing similar issues and promoting sustainable practices.
The government’s commitment to support rural development not only reflects a focus on empowering local communities but also offers a hopeful prospect for improving livelihoods and sustainability in the region, reinforcing the essential role of community participation in these initiatives.
