A low-pressure trough, characterized by clouds and intense rainfall, is currently positioned over the Fiji Group. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the system is slowly progressing eastward.

Showers are anticipated to continue impacting the region through the remainder of the day. The Fiji Met Service has highlighted that areas including Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Sigatoka, the Coral Coast, and the interior regions of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group will experience occasional showers.

In other parts of Fiji, cloudy conditions are expected along with intermittent showers. Additionally, there may be afternoon or evening thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy rainfall. Such localized downpours could result in flash flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Looking ahead to Sunday, the forecast indicates continued cloudy conditions with scattered showers in the greater Suva-Nausori-Tailevu regions, as well as parts of Ra-Rakiraki, Naitasiri, Serua, Namosi, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Lau, and the Lomaiviti Group. Other areas are expected to remain fine, apart from a few isolated afternoon or evening showers.

Despite the challenges posed by weather-related disruptions, the importance of preparation and community resilience shines through. With the proper measures in place, residents can navigate these conditions safely and effectively.

Overall, while the current weather presents challenges, it also serves as a reminder of the care we must take in being prepared for natural events and looking out for one another during adverse weather situations.
