Police are urging parents to educate their children about the legal implications of splashing water on moving vehicles. This warning follows several complaints from motorists since the beginning of the year, bringing attention to a concerning trend.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, referenced a recent video that has circulated on social media showing a bus driver as a victim of this dangerous behavior. He emphasized that such actions can lead to serious accidents, causing injuries or even fatalities. “Please celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water on moving vehicles,” said ACP Driu.

The act of splashing water can be prosecuted under the Minor Offences Act of 1971 and the Crimes Act of 2009, which includes provisions for negligent acts causing harm. ACP Driu highlighted that the offense could escalate to a murder charge if serious injuries occur as a result.

Driu noted that children often do not grasp the severe consequences of their actions, making it crucial for parents to inform them about the risks involved. He also encouraged adults within communities to intervene and speak to children engaging in such behavior to prevent potential harm.

The police will maintain vigilance regarding these incidents to enhance community safety. ACP Driu concluded with a call for collective responsibility: “Let’s continue to look out for each other and assist in everyone’s safety.”

In summary, police are emphasizing the need for community awareness and responsibility regarding the dangers associated with throwing water at moving vehicles, urging parents and adults to play an active role in educating the youth about the potential legal and safety consequences. This initiative not only aims to protect individuals but fosters a culture of safety and care within the community.
