Police are urging parents to educate their children about the dangers and legal repercussions of splashing water on moving vehicles. This appeal follows reports from drivers who have experienced such incidents since the start of the New Year.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu highlighted that a concerning video circulating on social media shows a bus driver being targeted. He emphasized, “These actions can result in accidents, which may lead to serious injuries or even fatalities. We urge everyone to celebrate responsibly and refrain from throwing water at moving vehicles.”

Under the Minor Offences Act of 1971, individuals participating in such activities might face investigation, as could those violating the Negligent Acts Causing Harm clause of the Crimes Act 2009. The law is stringent, as the offense can escalate to murder charges, particularly if serious injuries occur.

ACPO Driu noted that children often do not comprehend the grave consequences of their actions, making it crucial for parents to communicate this message. He also encouraged adults within communities to intervene and speak to children engaging in such behavior.

The police are committed to monitoring these incidents and fostering a safer environment for all. ACPO Driu concluded with an appeal for community vigilance, stating, “Let’s look out for each other and ensure everyone’s safety.”

This proactive approach by law enforcement and the community can foster a more responsible festive atmosphere while ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.
