Minister for Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, has urged his ministry staff to elevate their performance following the revelation that a newly acquired vessel was not surveyed by the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF).

In addressing his team, Ro Tuisawau emphasized his role as a political leader rather than a manager, stating that he cannot handle every operational and regulatory issue. He expressed his disappointment with some existing procedures within the ministry and has initiated a comprehensive review of the vessel purchasing processes nationwide.

He highlighted the need for his team to adopt a more innovative and proactive approach to their work. Additionally, Ro Tuisawau announced that a review of the transport industry, including maritime services, is set to commence, and the Terms of Reference (ToR) for this review are currently being finalized.

This call for action signifies a pivotal moment for the ministry as it seeks to address operational challenges and enhance efficiency in the transport sector. By encouraging a culture of proactive problem-solving, Ro Tuisawau aims to inspire his staff to take ownership and improve processes for the benefit of the public.

Overall, this proactive stance could lead to positive changes within the ministry, potentially resulting in safer and more effective management of maritime services in Fiji.
