A new 21-day wellness walking initiative has been launched to deliver health services directly to communities throughout Viti Levu, Fiji. Spearheaded by wellness advocate Kunjal Nair and his foundation, the program will traverse over 21 towns and villages, taking place from June 21 to July 11.

This health-focused walk will offer free screenings for blood pressure and sugar levels at each stop, making essential health checks accessible, especially in rural areas where healthcare options are limited. Alongside these health checks, the campaign features wellness talks and fitness activities aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles and the early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).

Nair emphasized that the initiative seeks to increase physical activity among participants and improve access to health screenings, thus underscoring the significance of proactive healthcare. Through partnerships with the Health Ministry, local town councils, schools, and villages, the program aims to engage a wide audience. Individuals interested in participating can choose to walk any distance or visit the wellness hubs set up along the route for free health checks.

Reflecting on previous outreach efforts, particularly the recent medical services provided in the Wainibuka district and the Health & Fitness Campaign 2025, this initiative continues to highlight the urgency to address the NCD epidemic in Fiji. The Ministry of Health has pointed out that nearly 80% of annual deaths in the country are attributed to NCDs. With nearly 95% of these diseases being preventable through lifestyle changes, the importance of such outreach and community engagement is clear.

Kunjal Nair’s 21-day wellness walk is indicative of a growing trend in Fiji focused on enhancing health awareness and accessibility, aiming to empower individuals to take control of their health before illness sets in. This program not only contributes to community wellness but also embodies a hopeful movement toward a healthier future for all Fijians.

By leveraging community spirit and collaborative efforts, such initiatives have the potential to significantly reduce the burden of NCDs and enhance overall public health in Fiji.
