The public has been urged to enhance security measures for their homes and belongings. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu emphasized the importance of vigilance as numerous events and social activities are occurring, leading families to leave their properties unattended, which creates opportunities for criminals.
ACP Driu also called on school authorities to routinely monitor the security of their institutions, as schools are potential targets for criminal activities. Recently, a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka, where he allegedly entered the office of a senior staff member and took various items.
As investigations progress, Lautoka Police are actively searching for accomplices linked to the incident. ACP Driu noted that during this period, individuals may resort to desperate measures for quick financial gains, highlighting the need for heightened awareness among community members to prevent thefts and robberies.
He advised residents to secure their properties by identifying and addressing any vulnerabilities, including ensuring doors and windows are properly locked and updated if necessary. Residents are encouraged to rely on friends or neighbors to monitor for any suspicious activity when they are away.
Creating a neighborhood chat group to share information about local happenings is recommended, along with developing habits such as regularly checking that car doors and windows are secure and avoiding leaving valuables in vehicles to deter thieves.
