The public is being urged to implement essential security measures to protect their homes and possessions. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of vigilance, noting that many families are attending various events and leaving their homes unattended, making them prime targets for criminal activities.

Driu has also called on school administrations to regularly assess their security, as educational institutions are likely to be targeted as well.

Recently, a 27-year-old man was apprehended in connection with an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka, where he allegedly broke into a senior official’s office and stole various items. Lautoka Police are actively searching for any accomplices as their investigation progresses.

Driu highlighted that the holiday season often sees an uptick in desperation-driven crime, urging the community to stay alert to avoid becoming victims of theft and robbery. He recommended that residents evaluate all potential vulnerabilities around their property, ensuring doors and windows are secure, and replacing locks if necessary.

While away, he suggested asking friends or neighbors to be vigilant for any suspicious activities. Additionally, he proposed creating a neighborhood chat group to share information about local occurrences. He reminded everyone to routinely check that all doors and windows are secured and to avoid leaving valuables visible in cars, as this could attract thieves.
