The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is advising residents to remain cautious during the Diwali celebrations. FCCC teams are actively monitoring compliance with the FCCC Act 2010, particularly regarding misleading promotions, high prices, and unethical practices by traders.
FCCC Chief Executive Joel Abraham emphasized that while Diwali is a joyous occasion, it can also attract dishonest traders looking to exploit consumers. He urged shoppers to be vigilant, closely examine the terms and conditions of promotional offers, and make informed purchases.
Abraham warned that deals that appear overly attractive may contain hidden terms. To ensure that consumers are protected, FCCC teams are deployed across Fiji, having carried out 78 inspections focused on preventing price gouging and deceptive practices, allowing everyone to enjoy the celebrations without worry.
He encouraged the public to report any suspicious behavior, including inflated prices or misleading promotions, to the FCCC immediately.
