The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is advising citizens to remain alert during the Diwali festivities, with teams actively monitoring compliance with the FCCC Act 2010. Their focus is on preventing misleading promotions, inflated prices, and unethical trading practices.
FCCC Chief Executive Joel Abraham emphasizes that although Diwali is a time for celebration, it’s also a period when dishonest traders might attempt to exploit consumers. He urges shoppers to remain cautious amid numerous sales and promotions, advising them to carefully examine terms and conditions and make informed purchasing decisions.
Abraham highlights the importance of scrutinizing deals that appear excessively favorable, as they might include hidden costs or conditions. FCCC teams are deployed across Fiji to safeguard consumers from potential exploitation.
To date, they have conducted 78 inspections and surveillance operations aimed at closely monitoring businesses and preventing price gouging and deceptive practices, ensuring a worry-free celebration for everyone.
Abraham encourages individuals to report any suspicious activities, such as inflated prices or misleading offers, directly to the FCCC.
