Stay Safe: Tips to Protect Your Home Amid Rising Crime Alerts

The public is being urged to implement necessary security measures to protect their homes and belongings. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted concerns about several events and social gatherings that are causing families to leave their homes unattended, creating opportunities for criminal activity.

ACP Driu also advised school administrators to routinely review the security of their premises, as educational institutions are likely targets for crime.

In a recent incident, a 27-year-old man was arrested in connection with an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka, where he allegedly stole various items from the office of a senior official.

Lautoka Police are currently searching for the suspect’s accomplices as the investigation is ongoing. ACP Driu noted that some individuals may resort to desperate measures to make quick money during this time, prompting a call for increased vigilance among community members to prevent becoming victims of theft and robbery.

He emphasized the importance of securing properties by identifying and reinforcing any vulnerable areas or entry points. Residents are encouraged to check locks and consider upgrading them if necessary. If away, individuals should ask friends or neighbors to monitor any suspicious activity in their absence.

Driu encouraged the creation of neighborhood chat groups to facilitate the sharing of information and keep everyone informed about local occurrences. He reminded everyone to maintain the habit of locking their doors and ensuring all car doors are secured and windows closed, as leaving valuables in vehicles can attract thieves.
