The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend of events approaches.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu noted that the major conferences and gatherings held throughout the week have mostly proceeded without incident. However, the focus of operations will now shift to major cities and towns in anticipation of the upcoming festivals and the increased movement and gathering of people.
ACP Driu warned that opportunists may take advantage of the more relaxed atmosphere, urging the public to implement all necessary safety precautions. He highlighted that common targets for crime may include car break-ins, pickpocketing, and theft of personal possessions such as bags, wallets, purses, and mobile phones. He stressed the importance of vigilance among the public regarding their safety and security.
Additionally, ACP Driu issued a stern warning to drug dealers, stating that the police will take decisive action against those involved in illegal activities. They have established measures across the five policing divisions to combat the drug trade.
He also reminded homeowners to take precautions to secure their properties at all times.
The Fiji Police Force once again emphasized the importance of vehicle security. They cautioned car owners against complacency, advising them not to leave keys in the ignition, doors unlocked, or windows down to prevent vehicle theft.
