The Minister for Disaster Risk Management, Sakiasi Ditoka, has emphasized the importance of safety for all Fijians as the country experiences ongoing rainy weather due to Tropical Disturbance (TD01F), situated approximately 240 kilometers west of Yasawa-i-Rara. Although the likelihood of TD01F developing into a tropical cyclone is low, Ditoka cautioned that the nation could still face adverse weather conditions from this disturbance.

In light of the upcoming New Year celebrations, Mr. Ditoka urged citizens to remain vigilant. He recommended that all Fijians stay informed through official updates, adhere to advisories from authorities, and take necessary precautions. Simple actions such as securing property, preparing emergency supplies, and having a family safety plan are essential.

The Minister reiterated the government’s previous advisory for individuals in affected areas to refrain from attending public gatherings, stating that any changes to this guidance would be based on thorough consultations with disaster management teams and relevant authorities. The focus aims to strike a balance between ensuring public safety and allowing the community to celebrate responsibly.

Mr. Ditoka assured residents in evacuation centers that government support will continue during this challenging period. He highlighted the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts, emphasizing collaboration with various partners, including local authorities, NGOs, community organizations, and religious groups, to swiftly restore normalcy.

This proactive approach from the government demonstrates a commitment to community safety and resilience in the face of natural challenges, emphasizing the importance of preparation and collective responsibility.

Overall, by prioritizing safety and encouraging preparedness, the government aims to navigate the rainy weather together and foster a sense of hope and unity among the people.
