As the festive season approaches, the public is being urged to prioritize their safety. This guidance comes as the Fiji Police Force launches its festive season operation across the country starting Friday.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that safety should be a primary concern for everyone, regardless of the occasion. “We want to remind everyone to be mindful of their safety while traveling on the road, shopping, enjoying picnics by the sea, rivers, and creeks, or simply having fun with friends,” said ACP Driu.
He highlighted that there will be an increased police presence to help ensure safety for all, but noted that personal responsibility is key: “Safety starts with each individual.” The police will also be collaborating with various stakeholders to monitor activities, particularly on the roads.
“The Fiji Police Force aims for an incident-free festive season and is calling for everyone’s support. We need your assistance in maintaining safety, whether it’s on the roads, at sea, in towns and cities, or at home with your loved ones,” ACP Driu urged.
Expect maximum police visibility in urban areas, on major roadways, at community events, picnic locations, schools, and businesses.
This proactive approach taken by the Fiji Police not only serves to enhance public security but also fosters a sense of community togetherness during the festive season. By working alongside law enforcement, citizens can ensure a joyful and safe celebration for everyone.
In light of these measures, we can look forward to a festive period filled with warmth, joy, and safety, allowing everyone to cherish the moments with friends and family.
