As the festive season approaches, the Fiji Police Force is ramping up operations nationwide, beginning this Friday. Members of the public are urged to prioritize safety during this busy time, as highlighted by Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu.
Driu stressed the importance of individual responsibility in maintaining safety while traveling, shopping, or enjoying leisure activities at beaches, rivers, and other public spaces. “Increased police presence is for everyone’s safety, but it begins with each person taking care of themselves,” he remarked.
The police will collaborate with various stakeholders to monitor activities and ensure safety, primarily focusing on road safety. Driu emphasized the goal of an incident-free festive season and the necessity for community support in achieving this. He stated, “The Fiji Police Force cannot manage this alone; we need your assistance in keeping everyone secure, whether on the roads, in the water, at social gatherings, or at home.”
Expect to see a heightened police presence in urban areas, along highways, in communities, at picnic locations, schools, and businesses to help maintain law and order during this festive time.
This advisory serves as a reminder that while the police can offer support and security, each member of the community plays a vital role in ensuring a safe holiday season.
It’s an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the festivities while being proactive about their safety and the safety of others.
