The Fiji Police Force is urging citizens to prioritize safety and security during the Diwali celebrations.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu emphasized that safety concerns are often overlooked amid the festive atmosphere. He reminded everyone to remain vigilant against potential safety and security threats during this joyful time.

“This is also a period when criminal elements may exploit the celebratory mood, family gatherings, and moments when safety and security are not at the forefront,” ACP Driu stated. He noted that the police aim for an incident-free celebration, but community cooperation is essential.

“Your safety and security begins with you. The first line of defense lies in the choices you make regarding your own safety and the protection of your property,” he said. “Complacency can create opportunities for wrongdoers, and accidents can occur, so we encourage everyone to stay alert.”

Driu also mentioned that the public can reach out to the Divisional Police Command Centres for any police service inquiries across the five divisions. The contact numbers for these centers are as follows:

DPC West – 8901667
WD Command Center – 9905457
DPC South – 9905614
