The Fiji Police Force is encouraging citizens to place a high priority on their safety and security as they celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted that safety often takes a backseat during festive occasions, which can create vulnerabilities for individuals and families.

ACP Driu cautioned that criminal activity can rise during celebrations, as it is a time when joy and family gatherings may lead to a lack of vigilance. He emphasized that the police aim for a celebration free from incidents, but achieving this requires the cooperation of the community.

“Your safety and security begin with you,” stated ACP Driu. He noted that individuals must be proactive in their choices as the first line of defense against potential threats. Complacency, he warned, can leave individuals exposed to opportunistic crime, and accidents can occur if caution is not exercised.

To ensure public safety, the police have provided contact numbers for various Divisional Police Command Centres across the five policing divisions to assist with any concerns regarding police services.

Here’s a complete list of contact numbers for easy access:

– DPC West: 8901667
– WD Command Center: 9905457
– DPC South: 9905614
– SD Command Center: 9905529
– DPC North: 9905808
– ND Command Centre: 9905722
– DPC East: 8991150
– ED Command Center: 9905563
– (Acting) DPC Central: 9905521

As celebrations for Diwali commence, this proactive messaging from the Fiji Police serves as a reminder that while festivals are a time for joy and gathering, remaining vigilant and prioritizing safety is equally essential. By fostering a community-oriented approach to safety, we can look forward to enjoying a festive period that is both enjoyable and secure.
