The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is urging all road users nationwide to exercise caution as severe weather, marked by heavy rainfall and flash flooding, persists in various regions. Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that the current challenging conditions may pose significant risks to road safety, calling on both drivers and pedestrians to be particularly alert while traveling.

With intense rainfall and possible flooding affecting numerous areas, Rokosawa stated, “We urge all road users to remain vigilant. The combination of heavy rain, reduced visibility, and flooded roads can lead to hazardous conditions.” He stressed the importance of prioritizing safety at all times.

The Authority recommends that the public refrain from unnecessary travel, especially in areas known for flooding. Those who need to venture out should stay informed about weather alerts and road closures, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.

Rokosawa also expressed concern over certain drivers who have ignored safety measures, with reports of speeding and reckless driving through floodwaters, thus endangering themselves and others. He assured that the Authority would take action against those who violate traffic laws and compromise public safety, reinforcing penalties to deter such dangerous behavior.

To enhance road safety, drivers are reminded to adhere strictly to speed limits, adjust their driving to suit weather conditions, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, use headlights during heavy rain or low visibility, refrain from overtaking unless necessary, and allow extra time for potential delays caused by weather or traffic incidents.

Rokosawa concluded that the Authority remains committed to ensuring public safety amid the ongoing adverse conditions.

This proactive approach by the LTA emphasizes not only the significance of safety but also community awareness during challenging weather. By looking out for each other and adhering to safety recommendations, road users can contribute to a safer travel environment for everyone.
