The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend of events approaches.
Assistant Police Commissioner of Operations Livai Driu stated that major conferences and gatherings throughout the week have generally been free of incidents. However, with the anticipated festivals and increased movement of people, law enforcement’s focus will shift to major cities and towns.
Driu warned that opportunistic criminals may exploit the festive environment, encouraging the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions for their safety. He highlighted that car break-ins, pickpocketing, and theft of personal items, such as bags, wallets, and mobile phones, are likely targets during this time.
The Assistant Commissioner also issued a strong message to drug dealers, promising strict action against anyone involved in the illegal trade, with measures set up across the five policing divisions to combat it.
He reminded homeowners to implement safety measures for their properties at all times. Additionally, the police emphasized the importance for vehicle owners to secure their cars, advising against leaving keys in the ignition and ensuring doors are locked and windows are closed to prevent vehicle theft.
