The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend of events approaches.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu reported that major conferences and gatherings throughout the week have mostly been incident-free. However, attention will now shift to major cities and towns in light of the anticipated festivals and the increased movement of people.
ACP Driu cautioned that opportunists may exploit the relaxed atmosphere, prompting him to encourage the public to adopt necessary safety measures. He highlighted that car break-ins, pick-pocketing, and thefts of personal items such as bags, wallets, purses, and mobile phones are likely targets.
Furthermore, ACP Driu issued a firm warning to drug dealers, stating that the police will rigorously address any involvement in the illegal trade and have implemented measures across the five policing divisions to combat this issue.
Homeowners were also reminded to take precautions to protect their properties at all times. Additionally, vehicle owners were advised not to be complacent about their car security, emphasizing the importance of not leaving keys in the ignition, doors unlocked, or windows down to prevent motor vehicle theft.
