The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a busy weekend approaches, filled with various events.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, stated that major conferences and gatherings have been mostly free of incidents this week. However, police operations will now focus on key cities and towns in preparation for the expected increase in public activities during the festivals.
Driu warns that opportunistic criminals may exploit the festive environment, and he emphasizes the importance of public vigilance in safeguarding personal belongings. Potential targets for crime include car break-ins, pickpocketing, and theft of items like bags, wallets, purses, and mobile phones.
Additionally, ACP Driu has issued a stern warning to drug dealers, indicating that law enforcement will take decisive action against anyone involved in illegal activities. The police have established measures across the five policing divisions to combat the drug trade.
Homeowners are also reminded to implement security measures for their properties at all times. Vehicle owners should remain cautious about their car security, ensuring that keys are not left in the ignition and that doors are locked and windows are closed to prevent motor vehicle theft.
