Stay Safe: Fiji Police Issue Urgent Warning Ahead of Eventful Weekend

The Fiji Police Force is urging all citizens to prioritize their safety and security as a bustling weekend of events approaches.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations Livai Driu noted that recent major conferences and gatherings have occurred without significant incidents. As the community gears up for festivals and an increase in public movement, law enforcement’s focus will shift to major cities and towns.

Driu cautions that those with ill intentions may exploit the festive environment, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance and proactive safety measures. He highlighted that car break-ins, pick-pocketing, and theft of personal items such as bags, wallets, and mobile phones could become prevalent and encouraged citizens to remain alert.

The Assistant Commissioner also issued a stern warning to drug dealers, stating that police will intensify efforts against illegal substances, with strategies in place across the five policing divisions to combat drug-related activities.

Homeowners are reminded to implement protective measures for their properties at all times. Vehicle owners are advised to avoid complacency regarding their cars’ security, including not leaving keys in the ignition, securing doors, and rolling up windows to prevent thefts.
