The FCCC has issued a warning to the public to be vigilant against fraudulent activities during the Diwali season, as scammers are attempting to take advantage of the surge in online shopping.

The FCCC reported that deceptive advertisements using the Fiji Government logo to portray legitimacy have been spreading on social media. These ads are encouraging users to click on suspicious links, which could lead them to fraudulent websites aimed at harvesting personal information for malicious purposes.

FCCC CEO Joel Abraham stated that these online education scams are cleverly designed to target Fijians looking to enhance their skills. “As we have pointed out previously, scammers are becoming more sophisticated in targeting Fijians,” he noted. “Official information regarding Government-sponsored programs is always disseminated through verified channels. While we are developing stronger anti-scam measures and legislation for the future, we urge people to remain cautious.”

With the Diwali festivities underway, the FCCC has advised Fijians to stay alert for potential scams. “Be wary of any unsolicited offers, discounts, or giveaways that require personal or financial information. Scammers may use Diwali-themed messages to mislead individuals, so it’s essential to verify the authenticity of all offers before participating.”
