Stay Alert: Scammers Target Holiday Busy Season!

Spread the love

ANZ Fiji has alerted customers in the Pacific to remain cautious of scams that may flourish during this bustling season. Rabih Yazbek, the country head of ANZ Fiji, pointed out that scammers frequently take advantage of holiday periods like Christmas and New Year, targeting individuals who may be distracted with festive activities.

“Scammers tend to seize upon busy times, hoping to exploit individuals who are preoccupied,” Yazbek noted. To combat these threats, he encourages customers to trust their instincts and exercise caution before divulging personal information, clicking on unfamiliar links, or making online purchases.

The bank is actively working to enhance customers’ awareness regarding scams and fraud prevention. Earlier this year, ANZ hosted Eli Hirschauge, the head of Information Security, to share insights about evolving cyber risks and fraud prevention strategies. Awareness sessions were held with customers, government agencies, the Reserve Bank of Fiji, and local media.

“It is vital to stay updated on the latest scam tactics as they continue to evolve,” Yazbek emphasized. He advised customers to routinely check their bank statements or apps and to report any suspicious activity without delay. Taking prompt action can help to avert potential losses.

Customers should remember that ANZ will never request personal information through email or text messages. Yazbek reminded customers, “If something appears suspicious, it likely is.”

This timely reminder underscores the importance of vigilance and education in the fight against fraud, encouraging a proactive approach to personal security as the holiday season approaches.

In summary, the article emphasizes the importance of remaining alert during the festive season, as scammers attempt to exploit the distractions that come with it. With ongoing education and awareness, customers can better protect themselves and create a safer environment for their finances.

A positive takeaway is that ANZ Fiji is committed to equipping its customers with knowledge and tools to recognize and respond to scams, ultimately fostering a more secure community.
