“Stay Alert: New Campaign Pushes for Safer Driving this Easter”

Motorists are being urged to take regular breaks while driving to stay alert and safe on the roads, especially as the long Easter weekend approaches. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched a new campaign titled “Stop, Revive, Survive” to raise awareness about the dangers of driver fatigue, which is a significant cause of accidents and fatalities on the roads.

LTA Chief Executive Irimaia Rokosawa emphasized that fatigue poses a silent yet deadly threat to drivers and their passengers. Through this campaign, the LTA aims to educate road users on the importance of rest during long trips and provide resources that promote safer travel. “Fatigue is a silent but deadly threat on our roads,” he remarked.

The campaign will introduce dedicated roadside rest areas across the country, offering drivers safe locations to pause and recharge before continuing their journeys. Initial activities for the campaign are scheduled at Wainadoi today from 10 AM to 12 PM, followed by another event at Pacific Harbour on Thursday at the same hours.

In connection with this initiative, some recent articles have highlighted ongoing issues concerning road safety, particularly the need for stricter adherence to traffic regulations, especially during peak travel times. The LTA’s efforts come in response to a concerning trend of reckless driving incidents, exacerbated by driver fatigue and distraction. Previous accidents, such as a serious incident in Navuniasi that injured 13 students, have underscored the importance of these safety campaigns.

The collaboration between the LTA and partners like Nestle not only aims to promote safe driving habits but also to foster a culture of responsibility and accountability among all drivers. By encouraging motorists to adopt safer practices, there is a hopeful outlook for reducing road accidents and ensuring safer journeys for everyone during busy travel periods.
