Members of the public are strongly encouraged to implement essential security measures to protect their homes and belongings.

Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations (ACP) Livai Driu stated that with numerous events and social gatherings occurring, families are often away from their homes, leaving them vulnerable to criminal activity.

He also urged school management to routinely evaluate the security of their properties, as educational institutions can also become targets for crime.

Recently, a 27-year-old man was apprehended in connection with an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka. The suspect reportedly broke into a senior official’s office and stole various items.

ACP Driu mentioned that Lautoka Police are actively searching for his associates as the investigation proceeds.

He warned that some individuals may resort to desperate measures to quickly resolve financial issues, a trend seen during this time of year. Therefore, it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant to prevent becoming victims of theft or robbery.

To enhance security, he recommends evaluating and fortifying any potential vulnerabilities around properties. This includes checking doors and windows, and changing locks if necessary. When leaving home, residents are advised to ask neighbors or friends to monitor for any unusual activities.

Creating a neighborhood chat group can be beneficial for sharing information and staying informed about local happenings. Additionally, individuals should cultivate the habit of ensuring all doors and windows are secured and avoid leaving valuables in their vehicles, as these can attract thieves.
