Stay Alert: Crime Wave Prompts Urgent Home Safety Tips

The public is being advised to enhance security measures to protect their homes and properties. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, highlighted that numerous events and social gatherings are drawing families away from their homes, creating opportunities for criminal activity.

Driu emphasized the importance of school management monitoring the security of their premises, as educational institutions could also be potential targets for crime.

In a related incident, police arrested a 27-year-old man for his alleged role in an aggravated robbery at a secondary school in Lautoka. The suspect reportedly broke into a senior official’s office and stole various items. Lautoka Police are currently seeking additional suspects as their investigation continues.

Driu noted that financial desperation often drives individuals to commit crimes during this time of year, underscoring the need for public vigilance to prevent theft and robbery.

He advised homeowners to thoroughly assess potential vulnerabilities in their properties, such as securing all entry points and replacing old locks if necessary. Residents should also enlist the help of friends or neighbors to monitor for any suspicious activities when they are away.

Creating communication groups with neighbors to share information and stay updated on local occurrences is also recommended. Additionally, Driu urged the community to lock their doors, ensure vehicle security, and avoid leaving valuables in cars, which could attract thieves.
