Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that the Cabinet has approved a State Grant to Robert Pearson Miller, following the conversion of a previously closed road, identified as Lot 1 SO 2991. This decision is rooted in discussions from the early 1970s when the government acquired land for the construction of the Suva-Nadi Highway.
With the highway now fully operational, the original need for the Closed Old Queens Road has been rendered obsolete, allowing the government to revert this land back to its previous tenure for rightful use. This initiative not only exemplifies effective land management but also demonstrates the government’s commitment to honoring historical agreements while meeting current community needs.
Rabuka highlighted that this approval is particularly important as it aligns with broader infrastructure initiatives in Fiji, including the ambitious Vanua Levu Road Upgrade Project. With a budget of FJD $300 million and funded by China’s Belt and Road Initiative, this project aims to enhance transportation networks that will greatly benefit rural communities, fostering local economic growth.
The Prime Minister emphasized that improving infrastructure is crucial for creating economic opportunities and empowering local communities. Each step toward enhancing Fiji’s infrastructure provides a hopeful outlook for better livelihoods, particularly for residents in rural areas. The ongoing commitment to such projects signals a positive future for community development across the nation, aiming to uplift and fortify local economies.
In summary, the cabinet’s approval of the State Grant represents a significant advancement in effective land management and reinforces the government’s dedication to infrastructure development. As these initiatives progress, there is a strong hope that they will lead to sustainable economic growth and enhanced quality of life for Fiji’s rural population.
