The introduction of a Starlink satellite internet system at Waivaka Village is set to significantly improve internet access for students and residents in Namosi. Acting district officer Susana Rokodakonivosa highlighted that the installation represents a crucial advancement, especially for secondary and tertiary students who have faced challenges in completing research and online assignments due to previous connectivity issues.
Rokodakonivosa noted that Namosi encompasses four districts that have been categorized as black zones, meaning they lacked any reliable internet service. The recent initiative by the Ministry of Communications aims to install Starlink connectivity in 15 villages within the region, providing essential internet and voice services.
This innovative service is designed to be accessed through community halls, fostering a collaborative environment that not only aids students but also benefits the entire community. The commissioning event at Waivaka Village includes connectivity for neighboring areas such as Narukunibua, Nasigatoka, and Namosi Village, marking a significant milestone in enhancing communication infrastructure in the area.
The installation, supported by Minister for Policing and Communications, Ioane Naivalurua, symbolizes a hopeful future for Namosi as it bridges the digital divide and empowers students to thrive in their academic pursuits. The establishment of reliable internet service stands to transform educational opportunities and foster community development, paving the way for a more connected and informed populace.
