The McDonald’s Mike Friday Select Sevens team for the upcoming Coral Coast Sevens tournament in Fiji has officially been announced. The 14-member squad was revealed on social media, following discussions between team head coach Mike Friday and Fiji Airways men’s sevens head coach Osea Kolinisau, who is also serving as the tournament ambassador this year.
This invitational team comprises a range of distinguished players from the sevens rugby scene, including representatives from the current Fiji sevens team. The announcement highlights the team’s potential, noting the presence of Mike Friday and the inclusion of “elite athletes,” which adds to the appeal of the squad.
Among the notable players is Jerry Tuwai, a former national 7s representative and a two-time Olympic rugby sevens gold medalist. The timing of this squad’s announcement is perfect as anticipation builds for the tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, scheduled for January 16-18.
