Excitement is on the rise as the McDonald’s Fiji Coral Coast 7s approaches, with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua announcing a formidable squad for this prestigious tournament. The Drua 7s team showcases a compelling blend of seasoned internationals and emerging talents, promising fans an exciting competition.
This year’s lineup features five capped Flying Fijians, a Rugby World Cup 7s champion, an Olympic silver medalist, and a provincial title winner. Such a diverse mix is expected to enhance the competitiveness of the tournament, especially as it serves as a crucial part of the Drua’s Sun Bell Pre-Season program in preparation for the 2026 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season.
The squad combines players from the main Drua roster with those from the development pathway, striking a balance between experience and youth. Coaching will be undertaken by Drua Development Coach Nemani Nadolo-Kuridrani, alongside sevens legend Waisale Serevi and veteran player Ratu Meli Derenalagi, who also boasts a gold medal from the Tokyo Olympics.
On the field, leadership will be shared by dynamic forward Elia Canakaivata and explosive back Joji Nasova. The playing group includes notable players from the main squad such as Isikeli Rabitu, Philip Baselala, Aisea Nawai, Kitione Salawa, Ilaisa Droasese, and Maika Tuitubou. They are joined by development players Joweli Walevu, Kalioni Ratunabuabua, Pita Manamananaivalu, Meli Dreu, and Bogi Kikau, further strengthened by Simeli Karacia, a standout from the Malolo Rugby’s 2025 Skipper Cup-winning side.
Nadolo-Kuridrani expressed confidence in the squad’s composition, emphasizing the importance of the coaching group’s experience as they aim for another impressive performance following their semi-final appearance at last year’s tournament.
The Drua 7s, positioned in Pool E, will kick off their campaign against the British Army 7s at 11:40 am (FJT) on Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka. As they prepare to take on formidable rivals including Japan SDS and Yaro Chiefs, anticipation builds for what promises to be an exhilarating tournament showcasing Fiji’s rugby talent.
