The Fijian Drua women’s rugby team is preparing for an exciting season in the Super W competition, with a host of prominent players expected to join the squad. Former Fijiana 7s captain Rusila Nagasau has reportedly secured her place on the team, as evidenced by her appearance in training videos shared on social media, which were filmed during their workouts at the Sand Dunes in Sigatoka last December. Alongside her, fellow former stars Alowesi Nakoci and Raijeli Daveua, who will lead the Fijiana 7s at the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games, are also believed to be part of the Drua’s roster.
These athletes have previously made history for Fiji, playing key roles in the team that won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The Drua will also benefit from the return of Timaima Ravisa, who has experience across sevens, union, and league. Recently spotted training with the Drua, Ravisa previously played with Stade Rennais Rugby in France and was instrumental in their Super W title win during their debut season in 2022. Similarly, Kolora Lomani is returning to the Drua after a stint with the Brumbies women and also represented Fiji at the Paris Olympics.
The training sessions have also included local talents such as Alfreda Fisher, Isabella Koi, Carletta Yee, and Josifini Naihamu from Namosi, adding depth to the team. The official squad announcement is scheduled for January 29, in compliance with competition regulations, setting an anticipatory stage for the fans as they look forward to the season opener against the Waratahs on February 28 in Sydney.
This lineup not only boasts seasoned Olympians but also features emerging local talents, providing a source of hope and excitement for the Drua’s upcoming campaign. The combination of experience and youth sets a promising tone for a competitive season in the Super W competition, where the Fijian Drua women’s team aims to make a significant impact and continue promoting women’s rugby in Fiji and the Pacific region.
