St. John Primary School in Wailoku has reintroduced its inter-house athletics event after a 14-year hiatus, generating excitement among students, parents, and staff. Nearly 300 students from both primary and kindergarten levels participated with enthusiasm in this eagerly awaited event.
Head of School, Joseva Vere, highlighted the importance of reviving this tradition. “The inter-house competition for this school has been absent for about 14 years. It was only last year during discussions with staff that we decided to bring it back, as it is something the students were missing. For many, this is their first experience with athletics events,” he stated.
Vere emphasized the school’s commitment to nurturing students’ talents, noting that many may possess athletic skills that have not been recognized due to the long absence of the event. “Who knows, we might have children who are very skilled in athletics but haven’t had the opportunity to shine. That’s why we are here today,” he remarked.
This year, the school is prioritizing its own activities and has opted out of participating in zonal competitions. Nevertheless, Vere mentioned that the option to join these zonal events in future years remains open.
